There are two primary approaches to pool closure service GTA homeowners can choose from, each with different cost, timeline, and future-use implications.
Partial Pool Fill-In is the most common method. Our crew drains the pool, punches a series of drainage holes in the bottom shell to prevent future water accumulation, removes and disposes of the top 12–18 inches of the pool walls and coping, and fills the remaining shell cavity with layers of granular aggregate — crushed stone, gravel, and compacted fill. The area is then graded to blend with the surrounding yard. This method is faster, less expensive ($5,000–$12,000), and results in a stable, usable yard surface suitable for lawn, gardens, or light landscaping. It is the appropriate method for homeowners not planning to build structures over the area.
Full Pool Demolition involves breaking up and completely removing the entire pool shell — concrete, fibreglass, or vinyl — along with the surrounding deck if included. The excavation is then backfilled with engineered granular material, compacted in lifts, and graded. Full demolition is required if you intend to build an addition, garage, or other structure over the area, or if your municipality specifically mandates complete shell removal in their permit conditions. Costs range from $12,000–$20,000 depending on pool size, shell type, and site access. Both methods include permit coordination, pumping out the existing pool water, and final site grading.
