How accurate is the yard measurement?

Measurements are taken from the satellite map's own projection, so the scale is mathematically exact rather than estimated from a photo. Accuracy in practice depends on how carefully you trace your property line, and typically lands within a few percent. It is accurate enough to answer whether a given pool fits, but a site visit is still needed before construction because grading, services and access are not visible from above.

Will a pool actually fit in my yard?

The planner checks three things at once: that the pool sits inside the area you traced, that there is room for your chosen deck width all the way around, and that the pool stays at least 1.5 metres from the property line. If any of those fail it tells you and highlights the pool in red. Setbacks in Ontario are set by each municipality and commonly run 1.2 to 1.5 metres, so always confirm the exact figure with your own city before you commit.

No. It is a budgeting range built from typical 2026 Greater Toronto Area figures, and it uses the same numbers published in our cost guides. Final pricing depends on site access, soil conditions, grading, drainage, existing services and your municipality's requirements, none of which can be seen from a satellite image. Treat the range as a starting point for planning, then book a site visit for a firm number.

What is the average inground pool size?

The average inground pool size across the Greater Toronto Area is 16 by 32 feet, which gives 512 square feet of water. That size suits a family of four, takes a diving-free deep end comfortably, and still leaves usable lawn on a typical suburban lot. Standard sizes run from 12 by 24 feet at the compact end up to 20 by 40 feet, with 8 by 14 foot plunge pools below that for very small yards. As a rule of thumb a 16 by 32 pool needs roughly a 31 by 47 foot yard once you allow a six foot deck all round and a 1.5 metre setback.

What size pool fits in my backyard?

Work backwards from your yard rather than forwards from a pool size. Measure the usable rectangle, then subtract twice your setback and twice your deck width from both dimensions; what remains is the largest pool that fits. For a six foot deck and a 1.5 metre setback that means subtracting about 22 feet from the width and 22 feet from the length. A 45 by 60 foot yard therefore takes a pool up to roughly 23 by 38 feet.
